Mersenne Digest Thursday, August 16 2001 Volume 01 : Number 876 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 14 Aug 2001 20:16:08 -0700 From: Gerry Snyder Subject: Mersenne: Prime95 is hung up (sorta)-- what to do? Help! My prime95 (20.4.1) execution is hung up trying to communicate with the server. (Running under Win 98, if that makes a difference.) The last messages from it are below. M11095463 stage 2 complete. 53778 transforms. Time: 5459.505 sec. (7097356309232 clocks) Starting stage 2 GCD - please be patient. Stage 2 GCD complete. Time 449.537 sec. (584397792376 clocks) Sending text message to server: UID: gsnyder/P-IV-1.3Gig, M11095463 completed P-1, B1=115000, B2=1035000, WW1: 1F392115 Among the possible problem areas are the server, my firewall, my PC, or the fact that I changed its name (when I upgraded h/w, it seemed wrong to call a 1.3 GHz P 4 by the name "Celery333". The prime.log file and results.txt end with the same line as the prime95 screen. Prime95 responds to Test/Status request, and most other menu choices, but all it did for Test/Stop was gray out the menu selection. My real question is whether there is anything better to do than just kill the program and restart it. Also, is there anything I should do (beyond this email) to make sure the P-1 result gets logged? Hi All, Just curious of something here, since I've upgraded to a faster machine, 1.333GHz(1.47 oc'd), 512M DDR on a win2k platform if it would be prudent to take on factoring 10M digit primes, thanks ahead....
