Mersenne Digest Sunday, 3 May 1998 Volume 01 : Number 355 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: STL137 Date: Fri, 1 May 1998 19:37:12 EDT Subject: Mersenne: Life One short thing that I have to say (don't read it uf you don't want to, it is non-prime related). Cool Fast DOS Life program: http://www.intersrv.com/~dcross/programs.html#life16 That is all. STL137 ------------------------------ From: Will Edgington Date: Sat, 2 May 1998 08:04:29 -0700 Subject: Mersenne: Web pages reorganized; P-1 progress I've moved things around some on my web pages; all of the data files: DATABASE DB.nf primeM.txt factoredM.txt lowM.txt MMPstats.txt M3status.txt ... are now packed in mersdata.zip (zip'd) and mersdata.tgz (tar'd then gzip'd). This not only means that you can get all of them in one transfer, but also that it should be faster unless you never need lowM.txt (by far the largest of them). It also means I have more disk space left for other files or to expand lowM.txt further. See mersenne.html for brief descriptions of each file. Let me know if something's confusing, not explained, or whatever, or even if you can't browse the web and want me to email you a copy of my page(s). Also, there's been quite a bit of P-1 progress lately and I have several more save files; several exponents below 900 are still available. The network was down, or something like that, and because of that, mprime couldn't connect to PrimeNet. But the problem is, that while the Win95 version just recovers and tries again later, here's what happened with mine : Sending result to server for exponent 4221563 ERROR: Primenet error: 1 (error message repeated 6 times) and that's what I see in the log, after logging in and wondering why mprime isn't running anymore. Furthermore, there wasn't lack of work to do; in fact, it left a broken pair of intermediate files on the hard disk : - -rw-r--r-- 1 slaur users 0 May 2 20:09 p4221563 - -rw-r--r-- 1 slaur users 917514 May 2 19:33 q4221563 (the q file might actually work, but the p file looks strange... ------------------------------ End of Mersenne Digest V1 #355 ******************************
